Ten individuals sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court handed down suspended prison sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has yet to be released.
A persistent false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the US against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens ignored all credible evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would risk all her credibility on her conviction that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she was a teacher at his secondary school.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
